Here’s a twist on a MeMe I’ve seen a few times. Put your MP3 player on random and press play. List the first ten songs that come up. No fair skipping songs to try to make yourself look cool – if you have nothing but Celine Dion on your MP3 player, than your MeMe should be nothin’ but Celine (though, seriously – there’s a lot of awesome music out there – so BRANCH OUT!). Then, share your favorite line from the song, and if you have a memory related to the song, share it too.

Corner of Your Heart – Ingrid Michaelson
“There is room beneath your bed for me
There is room beneath your bed just for me
I will leave this town just to sleep underneath your bed
Underneath your bed.”
Ingrid Michaelson is an artist I stumbled over somehow. There was a lot of hype about a song of hers in an Old Navy commercial, so I started listening to her stuff on iTunes and found this one. No real significance to the song for me, but I love it.

Stop and Stare – One Republic
“I think I’m moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I’ve become what I can’t be, oh…”
No real memories of this – I mean, it’s on the radio every fifteen minutes, so it basically reminds me of every time I’ve been in the car in the last several months.

Mentirosa – Mellow Man Ace
“Today you tell me something
Y manana otra cosa…”
This song came out when I still lived in California. I listened to a lot more rap back in the day. Though I still enjoy rap, I don’t necessarily seek it out. This one always struck a chord with me – I liked the Spanglish vibe to it – and the video had subtitles every time he sang a line in Spanish – which is how I came to know how to say “drunk” in Spanish, which I find very helpful.

Always Be My Baby – David Cook
“You’ll always be a part of me
I’m part of you indefinitely…”
I’m an American Idol junkie and was glad David Cook won. On Mariah Carey week though, I cringed. I thought there was no way I was going to be able to handle it – an hour of Mariah Carey and her songs? Eh. But he started singing this one and at first, I didn’t even recognize it. He sang the hell out of it, and I really enjoy this version far more than Mariah’s crap.

Le Ballet d’Or – Counting Crows
“Leave your damage behind and gone…”
This is actually my least favorite song on the new Counting Crows cd. I want to like it, I really do, but, generally this is the one that I skip when it comes on. Every one of their albums has one song like that – on August and Everything After, I always skip “Perfect Blue Buildings.”

Madness – Alanis Morisette
“It’s been all to easy to cross my arms and roll my eyes
The thought of dropping all arms leaves me terrified…”
This is an iTunes extra from the new Alanis album, and one of my favorites, actually. The melody is beautiful, but the line I quoted above was one that resonated with me. I’m one to hide behind my defenses – I’m not saying it’s right (well, at this moment, I’m not saying it’s right – but there are times when I think I’m right).

Your House (Acoustic) – Alanis Morisette
“Would you forgive me love
If I cried in your shower?
Would you forgive me love
for the soap in your bed?”
When Jagged Little Pill came out, this was the “hidden track” on some versions. For some reason, it wasn’t on all versions – when my husband and I moved in together we both had that cd, and mine had the hidden track and his didn’t. We got rid of his cd. My college roommate and I used to call this song “Trespassing” because we didn’t know the name – I mean, she’s barging into his house univited, for god’s sake. When I was downloading her new album, I found that iTunes had an acoustic version of Jagged LIttle Pill including this version of “Your House” which I adore – even better than the original.

Cool – Gwen Stefani
“So far from where we’ve been
I know we’re cool…”
This song reminds me of shopping with my sister. My sis is ten years younger than I am and I wanted a pair of jeans for a bachelorette party. My sis is definitely my authority on cool. She had told me that all my jeans made my ass look funny (Yeah sis, love you too) and that I needed a new pair for the party. She took me to The Buckle, and while we were there this song came on. So, this song reminds me of my sister and the most expensive pair of jeans I own (that make my ass look fabulous!).

Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Israel Kamakiwiwo’ole
“And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true….”
This song has been used in a few commercials and in the movie Finding Forrester (which you should watch if you haven’t seen it). I love the Hawaiian version of it. Nothin’ like a bit of ukelele.

Manic Monday – Reliant K
“Blame it on the train when the boss is already there…”
I read lots of blogs, and have a few people on Twitter that I follow even though I have no idea who they are. One guy recommended this punked-out version of the Bangles’ “Manic Monday”. The same song you know and love but with a bit of an edge. It’s pretty cool.

I’m tagging anyone who feels so inclined or has writer’s block.
